KMC simulation capabilities

  • 1. Center for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology, Region Östergötland, Linköping, Sweden

Description

Background:
Simulation plays an important role in disaster medicine and emergency response training, enabling the study and improvement of complex healthcare systems and crisis management processes.
Objective:
To describe the simulation capabilities and resources available at the Centre for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology (KMC) and its partner organizations, supporting training, research, and emergency preparedness.
Results:
KMC provides a wide range of simulation systems, including the Emergo Train System (ETS), digital simulation tools (DigEmergo), stochastic simulation models with dynamic patient modeling, and high-fidelity training environments. These systems support training across the entire emergency care chain, from incident scene response to hospital care. Simulation approaches range from live and role-playing exercises to virtual and constructive simulations, incorporating both deterministic and stochastic models. Collaboration with academic, governmental, and research institutions enhances interdisciplinary development and application of simulation-based methods for decision support, preparedness assessment, and capacity planning.
Conclusion:
KMC offers a comprehensive and integrated simulation environment for disaster medicine training and research. The combination of diverse simulation tools, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced modeling approaches supports effective education, preparedness assessment, and continuous improvement of emergency response systems.
