Description

coastal-rom-replication v0.1.0 — first public release.

This repository is a self-contained FORRT-aligned reproduction of the headline trade-off claim in Loveland, Meixner, Valseth & Dawson (2024), Efficacy of reduced order source terms for a coupled wave-circulation model in the Gulf of Mexico, Ocean Modelling 190: 102387. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ocemod.2024.102387

The reproduction is at the level of published statistics (model outputs transcribed from the paper's Tables 4–7) plus independent download of NOAA CO-OPS gauge data (14 stations for Hurricane Ike, 13 for Hurricane Ida) and NDBC wave-buoy data (9 of 10). Loveland's conditional trade-off — reduced-order SWAN source terms (Gen1, Gen2) yield approximately 40 percent wall-clock savings versus the third-generation ST6 Gen3 source terms, with WSE-RMSE difference at most 0.007 m — is supported under the WSE-only-interest conditioning the authors specify in §6 Conclusions.

Release contents:

  • Four-notebook jupytext pipeline (download → clean → analysis → figures).
  • pixi.toml + pixi.lock for reproducible environments.
  • Snakemake workflow orchestrating the pipeline.
  • Dockerfile and GitHub Actions build to GHCR.
  • Main figure summarising the trade-off (figures/main_result.png).
  • FORRT chain drafts under nanopubs/drafts/; chain publication pending.
