Description

Currently, polymer fiber composites are utilized in numerous high-friction mechanical assemblies, insulating boards, fiber boards, and interior car parts. These composites go through machining procedures. An essential machining process for assembling various pieces is drilling. The current work sought to investigate drilling of bi-directional basalt and glass fiber reinforced polymer composite by analytical and experimental means. Through studies using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array, the effects of feed, spindle speed, and drill tip angle on machining characteristics and delamination factor were investigated. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) testing was done to evaluate the importance of each drilling process parameter and the ways in which they interacted. Multiple regression analysis was used to model the drilling parameters, and S/N ratio analysis was used to optimize them in order to minimize cutting forces and machining-induced damage
