Description

Shipping is fundamental for the UK economy, transporting c.85% by weight of the country’s international freight trade. As the sector’s clean energy transition accelerates, it is increasingly subject to both national and international decarbonisation policies. Using an econometric model, we show that, if shipping freight rates then rise significantly there can be effects on UK inflation. Such effects are temporary, reducing over time to negligible in the medium to longer term.
