Description
Figure 1. Phylogeny of Onchocercid filarioids constructed using maximum-likelihood (ML) estimations based on cox1 nucleotide sequences with a total of 649 unambiguously aligned bp (best-fit approximation for the evolutionary model: GTR+G+I). Major genera of the Dipetalonema lineage (Acanthocheilonema, Yatesia, Cercopithifilaria, Cruorifilaria, Litomosoides and Dipetalonema), including representative species with indication of vector range (ticks, biting midges, parasitic mites), are indicated. Filarioid sequences obtained in this study from the ticks A. cajennense (n = 15), A. oblongoguttatum (n = 2), A. romitii (n = 2), I. luciae (n = 2) and R. sanguineus s.l. (n = 1) are in bold. GenBank accession numbers of sequences used in analyses are shown on the phylogenetic trees. Numbers at nodes indicate percentage support of 1,000 bootstrap replicates. Only bootstrap values>70% are shown. The scale bar is in units of substitution/site.
