Description

This is a fluted bowl supported on two griffin's legs and a central column springing from a floral ball. The oval platform below is supported by six blocks carved with grotesque heads. Made up from a variety of unconnected ancient fragments and modern additions, these pieces were compiled in the workshop of Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-78) which gives the piece a secondary name as the Piranesi vase. Another sculpture similar to this is the Pirenesi Vase, also uploaded on MyMiniFactory and Scan The World. According to Piranesi it originates from the villa of the Roman Emperor Hadrian at Tivoli.   This object is part of Scan The World. Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
