Fragment of a metope

Authors/Creators

Description

This is one of the metope fragments that come from the temple of Athena on the Mycenae Acropolis. Metopes are rectangular and often decorative elements of architecture that fill the space between two triglyphs in a Doric frieze, which is a decorative band around a building. This one probably depicts a warrior.
