Description

This study investigates students’ perceptions regarding the utilization of media literacy to prevent online threats among Communication Arts students in Thailand.

Abstract:

The objective of this research was to study students’ perception of using media literacy (ML) to prevent online threats among students majoring in Communication Arts at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU), Thailand. The research employed a quantitative research methodology using questionnaires to investigate students’ awareness, attitudes, and implementation of media literacy skills in online social media environments.

The findings indicated that students demonstrated high awareness regarding ethical and responsible social media use, particularly concerning the effects of posting messages, images, and videos on themselves, others, and family members. Students strongly agreed that media literacy education contributes to the development of values, morality, ethics, and critical thinking. Furthermore, participants indicated that media literacy skills helped them critically evaluate online content, avoid misinformation, and protect themselves from online threats.

This study highlights the importance of integrating media literacy education into higher education curricula in Thailand to strengthen students’ digital awareness and responsible media consumption behaviors.
