Description
Spatulosia legrandi Toulgoët, 1965
(Figs 6, 115)
Spatulosia legrandi Toulgoët, 1965, Bulletin de la Société entomologique de France, 70 (7–8): 227, fig. 6 (male genitalia, paratype); pl. 5: fig. 9 (adult, holotype) (Type locality: [Seychelles] “Aldabra”).
Note. The species is known from two male specimens, of which, the holotype was originally lacking the abdomen (Toulgoët 1965: pl. 5, fig. 9) while the paratype was dissected and its genitalia were illustrated by the author (Toulgoët 1965). The pictures of the holotype and the genitalia preparation of the paratype used in the present paper (Figs 6, 115) were obtained from the MNHN online database (https://www.mnhn.fr/en/databases).
Diagnosis. The forewing length is 5.0 mm in males. Spatulosia legrandi is externally reminiscent of S. africana but is markedly smaller and has a somewhat more convex outer margin of the forewing. The male genital capsule of S. legrandi is similar to S. malgassica but can be easily distinguished by the markedly shorter distal costal process. The phallus of S. legrandi differs from S. malgassica in the more weakly sclerotised carinae bearing considerably smaller denticles (similar to S. griveaudi). The vesica structure of S. legrandi remains unstudied but the lack of the cornutus from the distal diverticulum is recognisable on the photo. The female is unknown.
Molecular data. Currently unavailable for this species.
Distribution. The species is endemic to the Seychelles.
