Changes in climate extremes over the European Forest Types (1991-2050)
Authors/Creators
Description
This study analyses observed (1991–2020) and projected (2021–2050) climate extremes affecting European Forest Types (EFTs) under climate change scenarios (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5). Using CERRA regional reanalysis data, forestry-relevant temperature and precipitation indices were combined with the 100 m EFT dataset developed in the OptFor-EU project. Results highlight significant regional differences across eight European case study countries, while confirming increasing climate extremes for all EFTs. The findings support EU adaptation and mitigation strategies, as well as climate-informed forest management practices.
