¿QUÉ IMPACTO HAN TENIDO LAS RESISTENCIAS A LOS ANTIBIÓTICOS EN LA ATENCIÓN SANITARIA A LOS PACIENTES POR COVID-19? ANÁLISIS DE COSTES

Description

Introduction: Infections associated with multi-drug-resistant organisms (MDROs) pose one of the greatest risks to public health today, a situation that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2013, epidemiological surveillance in Catalonia through the VINCat programme contributed to a reduction of 30 million cases of the four most prevalent MDROs.

Objective: To analyse the additional healthcare costs associated with MDROs in COVID-19 cases treated in acute care hospitals in Catalonia that report data to VINCat.

Materials and methods: A retrospective study of patients admitted with COVID-19 between March 2020 and September 2021, divided into two groups: those with MDROs and those without MDROs. All healthcare costs up to three months after admission were included. Univariate and bivariate analyses of costs were performed in both groups according to socioeconomic and clinical variables, and a multivariate regression analysis of costs was conducted with group status as the exposure variable.

Results: Pending the latest update of hospital data for 2021, between March and December.
