The Philosophy of LLMs & SLMs

Description

Every day a new model is released. Benchmarks are broken. Leaderboards are
reshuffled. The crowd chases scale. But beneath the noise, one question remains
unanswered: what truly unlocks the full potential of a small language model?
The Philosophy of LLMs & SLMs is the answer the field has been avoiding. Rather
than following the race toward ever-larger parameter counts, this book teaches the
reader to take control to understand, at a philosophical and technical level, what
makes a language model work, and how to push a small model far beyond what
its size would suggest.
The book moves from the nature of data and architecture through every alignment
technique, efficiency trick, and modern direction including the emerging paradigm
of 1-bit quantised models (BitNet) constructing a unified philosophy of language
model mastery.
