PhD Programme Representation, Knowledge and Architecture

  • 1. School of Architecture La Salle

Description

This PhD programme (2002-2009) created a transdisciplinary space linking architecture with art, science, and philosophy, using representation to explore how ideas, forms, and knowledge are conceived, communicated, and developed.

The purpose of the doctoral program REPRESENTATION, KNOWLEDGE, ARCHITECTURE (www.salle.url.edu/arq/plaestudis/doctorat) is to explore
the various meanings of the concept of representation within the field of architecture, taking into account its aesthetic, cognitive, and methodological dimensions.

The program content includes topics that, in traditional architectural education, have been addressed through specific subjects, such as design, history, aesthetics, composition, and graphic expression. In accordance with the multidisciplinary nature of the notion of representation, the topics covered are not limited to architecture but extend to other disciplines, mainly art, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, and computing.

The program consists of four courses, each lasting one semester: FORMs:THOUGHT, IMAGEs:PROJECT, SPACEs:RELATION, and METHODs:SYSTEM.
