Description
In the conditions of the intensification of the processes of overcoming the consequences of totalitarianism, the strengthening of the challenges of the “open society” and civilizational shifts, the problem of strengthening the positions of archaeographic science, ensuring its influence on the development of socio-humanitarian disciplines and society as a whole acquires extraordinary importance.
In addition, information wars, as their continuation – the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, and the systematic work of the aggressor state to revise the historical past to solve political and military tasks pose to our humanitarian science the task of creating fuses in the form of an updated database with various sources.
The experience of the development of archaeography in the conditions of totalitarianism is an integral part of the entire history of this science, and certain achievements of archeographers of that time are part of the intellectual history of Ukraine and should be involved in modern research.
The history of Ukrainian archaeography occupies a special place among the directions of archaeographic activity, as it is not only a separate topic of research, but also a research method, and in some definitions of archaeography – a constituent part of its subject.
Ukrainian archaeography as a scientific activity went through a difficult path of formation under the conditions of a totalitarian system. Ukrainian Soviet archaeography developed in the context of all-Union archaeography. This meant that the principles of theory and methodology developed by all-Union archaeographic centers, the rules for publishing documents and monuments, were directive for Ukrainian scientists.
Most of the efforts in the field of methodology were directed to the development of archaeographic provisions laid down in all-Union centers, bringing the published materials into compliance with the requirements that were not developed in Ukraine. The examination of transformational processes in Ukrainian Soviet archaeography during the era of totalitarianism (1940s – 1980s) provides a broad vision of the development of this science, the opportunity to highlight its features.
The study analyzed such approaches of Ukrainian Soviet specialists to archaeographic work, which created the conditions for Ukrainian archaeography to define its “own face” and laid the foundation for its revival in the 1990s. The directions of further work of archaeography in modern conditions are outlined.
