Architectural floor plan data from apartment units in Aurinkolahti, Helsinki, Finland, 2000–2023

The data set presents a mapping of apartment units from the housing stock of Aurinkolahti, Helsinki, Finland, completed between 2000 and March 2023. The data was collected by the author using open GIS data available from kartta.hel.fi and floor plan drawings from public building permit archives in February and March 2023. It includes information on 622 unique units representing 3787 apartments in the housing stock in a spread sheet table. It was collected to classify recurring layout types and to study spatial organization in urban Finnish apartments and its development in the 2000s. This data set was used in the analysis to quantify results of the floorplan analysis.

Following data is included in the data set: Unit ID, Building name, Permit year, Completion year, Number of floors, Building type, Studied floor plan (e.g. identical floors 2–5), Number of identical floor plans in building, Number of units in each floorplan, Total number of identical units, Unit floor area, Unit depth, Room count, Initial and final unit type (as a result of floor plan analysis), Position of bedroom entrance, Kitchen size, Natural light in the kitchen and analysis notes. Individual floorplans connected to each ID are available from the building permit archives.
