Otsomieva Tagirova Z.M. Toponyms as reflection of ethno linguistic and ethno cultural worldview of the Avars

The article deals with a comprehensive analysis of the toponymic system of the Avar ethnic area, which is being studied as the most valuable linguistic and cultural source for a multidimensional consideration of the features of ethno‑linguistic consciousness and spiritual traditional culture of the people. The research focuses on the fundamental problem of decoding and interpreting multi‑layered cultural and historical information semiotically embedded in geographical names. The linguistic and culturological mechanisms of reflecting toponyms in Avar proverbs and sayings are considered and classified as indicators of national characteristics, the most ancient archaic mythological and religious ideas, the specific sensory and practical perception of space, the complex socio‑economic structure, as well as the collective historical memory of the Avar society. Special attention is paid to the identification and description of deep language models, productive word‑formation strategies and specific principles of nomination, which clearly demonstrate the inextricable dialectical connection of language, categorial thinking and the surrounding natural environment in the process of forming a unique and distinctive ethnic worldview.
