Abstract
The second issue of the SPIN-FERT Newsletter highlights the project’s dynamic activities and achievements during the first half of 2025, showcasing its continued contribution to sustainable horticulture and soil health under Horizon Europe. The newsletter presents a wide range of scientific, educational, and outreach initiatives across Europe, including international conferences, policy-related events, field demonstrations, and participatory workshops. Particular emphasis is placed on integrating art and science as a distinctive communication strategy, exemplified by initiatives such as Breath of Soil – Memory Nexus, bioacoustic workshops, and public engagement at ECSITE 2025. The issue also outlines ongoing research on biostimulants, peat-free substrates, soil microbiomes, and innovative technologies such as encapsulation and AI-supported soil assessment. Overall, the newsletter reflects SPIN-FERT’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of circular, resilient soil systems linking science, policy, and society.
