Online Course on Biomedical Data and Sample Governance
Description
This presentation, delivered at the Southeast Asia Bioethics Network Meeting in Bangkok on 28 May 2025, introduces a forthcoming online course on biomedical data and sample governance, designed to build practical capacity among researchers and stakeholders working with health data and biological samples. The course will adopt a discovery-based learning approach, combining case studies, interactive decision-making, and hands-on tools to help participants navigate ethical, legal, and operational challenges related to data and sample reuse. Structured across seven modules released between July 2025 and March 2026, the course covers key topics including governance frameworks, FAIR data principles, metadata and data quality, ethical and legal considerations, and biobanking governance, with a strong emphasis on actionable tools and equitable, interoperable data practices. Developed in collaboration with global and regional networks such as ECRAID, ESCMID, TGHN, CoMeCT, and CERCLE, the initiative aims to strengthen governance capacity across diverse settings and foster international collaboration, while remaining a living resource open to community input and continuous refinement.
