Empire Trajectory Dataset - The Epoch Institute
Description
The Epoch Institute's Empire Trajectory Dataset covers 94
civilisations across five millennia, from ancient Mesopotamia
to the modern era.
Each entry includes normalised power scores (0–10) across
six dimensions:
• Territory
• Military capacity
• Economic output
• Administrative coherence
• Cultural influence
• Geopolitical reach
Power scores are researcher-assessed indices drawn from
peer-reviewed historiography with Harvard-style citations.
Scores represent relative civilisational power plotted
across each empire's full lifespan — from founding through
peak to decline.
The dataset accompanies the Interactive Empire Explorer at
https://the-epoch-institute.org, where all 94 trajectories
can be visualised, filtered by region and era, and explored
alongside full scholarly profiles for each civilisation.
