Description

Presentation delivered by Dr. Luciana Mara Silva at the interactive multilingual webinar organised by the Open Book Collective on 11 March 2026, which examined the role of open metadata in open access book publishing across Latin America.

The 75 minute session discussed the concrete potential benefits of open metadata - such as improved visibility, interoperability, and institutional reach - as well as the technical and cultural barriers faced by publishers and repositories in the region. Discussions were primary conducted in Spanish and Portuguese, with live translation into English, and from Spanish and Portugese to each other.

The event was chaired by Amanda Ramalho - Thoth / SciELO (Brazil), and the other speakers were Lautaro Matas – LA Referencia (Latin America) and Juan Felipe Córdoba – Universidad del Rosario (Colombia).
