IKS (Indian Knowledge System) refers to the traditional knowledge, values, sciences, and practices developed in India over thousands of years. Modern education integrates IKS to promote sustainability, holistic development, and ethical living, which aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This paper describes SDG 4 Quality education by implementing IKS with modern education, further highlights data-driven examples, such as India’s push for organic farming in states like Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing the potential of IKS in advancing sustainable agricultural practices. The study argues that by integrating ancient Indian wisdom with modern sustainable development frameworks. The study highlights how traditional Indian practices related to health, education, agriculture, and environmental management contribute to achieving several SDGs, including quality education, good health and well-being, gender equality, responsible consumption, and climate action. Examples such as value-based education, holistic healthcare systems like Ayurveda, and practices such as Yoga demonstrate the continued relevance of traditional knowledge in modern society. The paper also presents case studies, including the integration of yoga in educational institutions and the Apatani rice–fish farming system, to illustrate the practical application of IKS in supporting sustainable development.

The study concludes that integrating Indian Knowledge Systems with modern education can strengthen sustainable development efforts while preserving cultural heritage and traditional wisdom for future generations.
