Valproic Acid Repurposing for UMP Synthase Expression Enhancement

  • 1. MedicOath

Description

Valproic acid acts as a histone deacetylase inhibitor, leading to chromatin remodeling and enhanced transcription of metabolic genes. This epigenetic modulation could upregulate UMP synthase expression in patients with residual enzyme activity, potentially compensating for reduced function through increased enzyme production. The drug also has neuroprotective properties that could benefit neurological symptoms.
