GRIN Receptor Antagonism for Pain Management in SCD

Description

Multiple GRIN genes (GRIN1, GRIN2A/B/D, GRIN3A/B) show 0.36 association scores with SCD (Open Targets). These encode NMDA receptor subunits involved in pain signaling. Selective GRIN2B antagonists could provide targeted pain relief without addiction risk, addressing the high opioid use in SCD (PharmGKB shows CYP2D6 variants affect opioid response in Nigerian SCD patients).
