Quantifying the Global Environmental Footprint of National Financial Systems
Description
This Zenodo deposit archives the MATLAB code accompanying the manuscript:
Jondeau, E., & Vallée, L.-S. "Quantifying the Global Environmental Footprint of National Financial Systems".
The pipeline computes financed environmental pressures and resource extraction of Swiss financial institutions, by combining the EXIOBASE 3.8.2 multi-regional input-output database with Swiss financial accounts (FWTW) and OECD balance-sheet data, for the period 1995-2024.
The repository contains four MATLAB modules:
- FWTW: bilateral financial claims between 9 institutional sectors using an Iterative Proportional Fitting (IPFP) solver under structural-zero constraints.
- AttributionBase: OECD liability aggregation by region.
- Exiobase: production-based and consumption-based environmental indicators using EXIOBASE 3.8.2.
- Final: synthesis pipeline combining the three previous modules.
Note on data: the EXIOBASE 3.8.2 dataset is not included in this archive due to its size (~25 GB) and CC-BY-SA licence. Instructions to download it from the official EXIOBASE Zenodo deposit (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.5589597) are in the README.
Access to this deposit is restricted during the peer review process. Reviewers can request access through the journal's editorial system or directly from the corresponding author. Open access will be granted upon acceptance of the manuscript.
