Agro-Based Entrepreneurship in Beed District: Scope and Sustainability
Description
Agro-based entrepreneurship has emerged as a crucial pathway for rural economic development, especially in drought-prone regions like Beed district in Maharashtra. The study aims to analyze the scope, opportunities, and sustainability of agro-based enterprises in the district. Using secondary data from government reports, research studies, and industry sources, the paper highlights that agriculture employs nearly 50% of India’s workforce while contributing around 15–18% to GDP, indicating a need for value addition through entrepreneurship. The findings suggest that agro-based enterprises such as food processing, dairy, poultry, and allied activities can enhance income stability, reduce migration, and promote rural development in Beed. However, challenges such as drought, lack of infrastructure, financial constraints, and limited market access hinder growth. The study concludes that sustainable agro-based entrepreneurship requires policy support, technological adoption, and improved value chain integration.
