Description
THE QUR’AN: Surah 1 | 96 — al-ʿAlaq — The Connection is a standalone study within THE QUR’AN: A Root-Based Qur’an-by-the-Qur’an Translation in Order of Revelation. It presents the first revealed surah in layered form: the Arabic text, transliteration, Word-by-Word, translation, Root Word Analysis, Qur’an-by-the-Qur’an Interpretation, Interpretive Proposal, Mathematical Observations, Surah-Level Mathematical Observations, Consolidated Translation, and appendices. In this study, the Basmalah is included as 1:96:0 and cross-referenced to the standalone Basmalah study for its full dedicated treatment.
This Zenodo record includes the PDF edition and a downloadable EPUB edition. The PDF preserves the fixed scholarly layout, while the EPUB is provided for reflowable digital reading. No supplementary CSV dataset is included in this record.
This work follows the project’s updated conventions of using ayah / ayat for revealed Qur’anic units and of treating key divine titles in translation with capitalization, such as The Almighty, The Merciful, and The Generous. It also applies the project’s translation method of preserving explicit gender distinctions where the Qur’anic wording itself requires them, while avoiding unnecessary male-specific English where the wording is not explicitly male-specific. In divine reference, He / Him / His may be used where English requires a pronoun, not as a statement of divine gender, but as a practical limitation of English expression.
This surah study reads al-ʿAlaq as a foundational opening of revelation: creation, reading, recitation, writing, teaching, human overstepping, false self-sufficiency, obstruction of devotion, warning, humility, and nearness to God. It presents the opening revelation as a unified discourse in which the Lord who creates is also the Lord who teaches, and in which the human being is addressed as a created, dependent, accountable being brought from not-knowing into knowledge.
The study also follows the project’s cumulative Root Word Analysis method. Semantically significant roots receive their first full treatment at their first revealed-sequence occurrence, while later recurrences are normally handled by brief backward reference in the Word-by-Word layer using the format [RWA x:x:x]. This preserves lexical traceability, cumulative consistency, and methodological transparency while avoiding unnecessary repetition. Mathematical observations are included as secondary and supplementary rather than controlling, and the volume closes with surah-level observations, consolidated digital proofs, and a separate personal-reflection appendix.
This work is a human translation and study of the Arabic Qur’an. It is not a substitute for the Arabic text, nor should any translation be treated as identical with revelation. The Arabic Qur’an remains primary, and all translations remain human renderings rather than revelation itself.
