Description
This report presents a comprehensive descriptive analysis of hypertension prevalence, care cascade performance, and subnational disparities in Indonesia from 2013 to 2023, drawing on three waves of national health survey data (Riset Kesehatan Dasar/Riskesdas 2013, 2018, and Survei Kesehatan Indonesia 2023). Key findings include a total hypertension prevalence of 31.8% among Indonesian adults in 2023 (approximately 63 million people), with 73% remaining undiagnosed. The care cascade analysis reveals that only 4.2% of the hypertensive population achieved blood pressure control in 2023, despite notable improvements in treatment coverage following the launch of JKN in 2014. The report also documents Indonesia's unusually high prevalence of Isolated Diastolic Hypertension (IDH) at 9.7%, up to seven times higher than comparable countries, and highlights substantial subnational disparities across 514 districts and 38 provinces. Subgroup analyses cover sex, age, urbanicity, wealth quintile, education, occupation, and insurance status.
This report is part of ARC Institute's AMHASS NCD Dissemination Series.
