Description

Abstract: The paper examines the legal imperatives for harmonizing Ukrainian sanctions legislation with the EU acquis following Ukraine's candidate status. It identifies structural and procedural discrepancies between the Law of Ukraine "On Sanctions" and EU Council Regulation (EU) No 269/2014. Key focus areas include the legal distinction between asset freezing and criminal seizure, the absence of a transparent de-listing process in national law, and the necessity of implementing Directive (EU) 2024/1226 regarding criminal penalties for sanctions violations to ensure compliance with EU standards.

Keywords: sanctions, harmonization, Ukraine, European Union, acquis communautaire, asset freezing, de-listing, criminal liability, Directive (EU) 2024/1226.
