Description

Our findings suggest that the reported associations between age and increased NK cell and monocyte counts may largely reflect indirect effects mediated by sex (for NK cells) and systemic inflammation, as indicated by IL-6 levels (for monocytes), rather than a direct consequence of chronological ageing per se.
