Description

Eilif Philipsen (1682-1785), a Norwegian man who died at 102, was long recognized by some researchers as the earliest-born verifiable centenarian. Since then, research effort on exceptional early longevity record-holders from countries like England, the United States and France allowed to identify several verifiable centenarians born prior to him. Who are the earliest known centenarians today whose age have been authenticated, and on the basis of what evidence? Thispresentation describes the validation of four of them: Martha Tomlinson(1668-1769), the earliest known English centenarian; Gershom Rice (1667-1768),the earliest known American centenarian; and the two French Marie Farjonel (1682-1788), the earliest known semi-supercentenarian, and Olivier Pelé (1575-1675), the newly earliest known centenarian worldwide.
