This paper proposes that consciousness is not the total machinery of mind, but the active present layer where experience becomes currently available. It separates functions often wrongly merged under one term:
Consciousness = present registration layer
Memory = retained structure
Recall = recovery into present usability
Logic = response shaping and comparison
Subconsciousness = background filtering, search, prediction, and preparation
The paper argues that much of what is commonly called consciousness belongs to stored structure, automatic cognition, or recall processes. Consciousness itself is framed as the immediate encounter point where new input, relevant change, or surfaced internal content becomes actively present.
Experimental Predictions of the Thin Present Layer Model - Resource Managed Interface Dynamics
This paper extends the framework into experimental territory. Consciousness is modeled as a constrained access surface operating under finite bandwidth, novelty weighting, relevance prioritization, anomaly capture, and selective refresh.
From this model, testable predictions are developed concerning:

The Observer Frame Model - Scale, Perception, and Local Completeness
This paper establishes the broader Observer Frame Model. Observation is redefined as any bounded system in which state differences become registrable, rankable, and actionable. Cells, organisms, humans, artificial systems, and distributed networks may each constitute observer frames operating under distinct constraints of scale, sensing bandwidth, temporal resolution, memory depth, and action horizon.
The paper introduces Local Completeness: the principle that each observer class may possess a coherent and sufficient world relative to its own operative frame, even when inaccessible to other classes.
Together, the three papers move from conceptual clarification, to falsifiable research design, to a general scale-relative model of observerhood. The result is a unified framework with implications for psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, comparative biology, systems theory, and philosophy of mind.
