NATMed: GPS Collar Tracking Data of Buffalo at Lake Chimaditida (August 2025) - Initial and Final Datasets
Authors/Creators
Description
This dataset contains GPS tracking data collected via animal-borne collars on buffalo within the study area of Lake Chimaditida, Western Macedonia, Greece, during August 2025. Two versions of the dataset are provided as separate zipped shapefiles:
- HeatMap_Initial.zip: The raw, unfiltered dataset containing 118,415 point records as exported directly from the GPS collar system.
- HeatMap_Final.zip: The quality-controlled, filtered version containing 17,335 point records, derived from the initial dataset after removal of erroneous or low-accuracy fixes. This version is intended for spatial analysis and heat map generation of buffalo activity patterns.
Each record includes GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude in WGS84 and projected in Greek Grid GGRS87), positional accuracy metrics (standard deviation and maximum error in X, Y, Z axes), ambient temperature (°C), timestamp, collar identifier (DK046), and device hardware/firmware information. Note: the "path" field in both shapefiles contains a local file path artifact from the original export and can be disregarded.
