Making Interviewing Accessible
Description
Talk given to the US-RSE UX Working Group on April 16.
Historically, the voices of neurodivergent people have been occluded by barriers imposed by research practice. More recently, adaptive research approaches have been proposed to enhance the inclusion of neurodivergent people in qualitative research. This workshop presents an adaptive interviewing approach employed in accessibility and computing research. We will review and practice adaptive interviewing approaches incorporating multiple methods: (i) responsive communication techniques; (ii) the inclusion and support of family carers; (iii) visual tools; (iv) walking interviews. Participants will walk away with an extended toolkit of interview approaches that support the participation of neurodivergent people in qualitative research.
