Seeds' Valley Ecological Farm

Authors/Creators

Description

This is a presentation by Zoltán Dezsény about Magosvölgy (Seeds' Valley) Ecological Farm, a real-world example of a short food supply chain in action, presented at the same COREnet Advisinar event on March 16, 2026.

Here's a summary of its main content:

Who they are. Magosvölgy is a small ecological farm located in Hungary (in the northern region, based on the map shown). It is run by a family and a small team, with a strong personal and community-oriented ethos.

Their farming model. The farm operates on just 0.5 hectares, growing 40 species and over 100 varieties of mixed organic vegetables. Now in its 13th season, it uses no chemicals or heavy machinery, relying instead on hand labor, permanent beds, no-tillage methods, and compost mulch — a deliberately low-tech, regenerative approach.

Their vision. The farm positions itself as a model of "human scale regenerative food systems," built around four pillars: socially just, financially sustainable, environmentally responsible, and community driven — all aimed at promoting human well-being.

Business model — Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Members pay a yearly fee in advance and receive weekly vegetable shares. The farm currently has 160 CSA members, 3 pick-up points, and reaches around 800 consumers, distributing roughly 32,000 kg of vegetables per year. Notably, there is a waiting list, indicating strong demand.

Growth over time. Starting in 2016 with just 61 members and one pick-up point in Budapest, it grew to 200 members by 2021 before settling at 160 members with 3 pick-up points in 2025.

Community and education. Beyond food production, the farm organizes open farm days and on-farm educational events, emphasizing face-to-face connection between producers and consumers and the transfer of agricultural knowledge.
