Description

Translation is a complex cognitive process that requires a deep understanding of both the source and target languages (Catford, 1965). For students learning a new language, translating from the source language to their native language often presents numerous challenges. These difficulties can stem from linguistic differences, cultural nuances, idiomatic expressions, and syntactic variations that do not have direct equivalents (Al.Sobh, 2022; Almjlad, 2024). As globalization and intercultural communication become increasingly important, the ability to translate accurately and effectively is a vital skill for language learners (Pham et al., 2022). However, many students struggle with capturing the true meaning and context of the original text, which can hinder their overall language proficiency (Almjlad, 2024). This paper aims to explore the common obstacles faced by students during translation tasks, analyze the underlying causes of these difficulties, and suggest strategies to improve translation competence. Understanding these challenges is essential for developing more effective teaching methods and supporting students in their language learning journey (Pham et al., 2022).
