Description
Professors Pedro Antonio Martín-Cervantes (University of Valladolid, Spain) and Rozina Shaheen (Effat University, Saudi Arabia) warmly invite scholars from around the world to contribute to the edited volume “Gender Economics in GCC Economies: Policy Transitions toward Women’s Economic Empowerment”, to be published by Springer Nature as part of the Perspectives on Development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region series (Scopus-indexed). This volume aims to bring together high-quality research examining the evolving role of women in GCC economies, with particular attention to policy transitions, labour market participation, education, leadership and institutional change. In line with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), contributions offering robust empirical evidence and policy-relevant insights are especially encouraged. Core areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Women’s labour market participation and employment dynamics
• Education, human capital and gender outcomes
• Leadership, governance and representation
• Gender and digital transformation (ICT, FinTech, AI)
• Family structures, social norms and economic behaviour
• Financial inclusion, microcredit and entrepreneurship
• Comparative perspectives within GCC and broader MENA/EMEA contexts
The submission deadline is March 2027. Submissions from diverse methodological and disciplinary perspectives are welcome. Contributions may be theoretical, empirical or policy-oriented, provided they offer clear relevance to the economic and institutional dimensions of gender in the region.
