Executive Summary

The Ocean Sciences Meeting (OSM) is a leading international conference for the ocean sciences and the wider ocean-connected community. Co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society (TOS), the biennial conference brought together around 6,500 scientists, students, policymakers, and educators in Glasgow from 22-27 February 2026.

IMBeR members actively contributed to OSM 2026 through oral and poster sessions spanning marine biogeochemistry, ecosystem dynamics, and ocean-climate interactions. Key activities included discussions on IMBeR 3.0’s new decadal science plan, the co-launch of the Integrated Ocean Carbon Research (IOC-R) report, and highlighting the release of the Global Marine Pelagic Microbial Respiration Database 2026. IMBeR science teams—including the Submarine Groundwater Discharge Working Group (SGD-WG), Action Plan for the Ocean, and Integrating Climate and Ecosystem Dynamics (ICED)—shared new insights and fostered collaboration.

Early-career engagement was a prominent feature, highlighted through a Town Hall event co-hosted with the IMECaN network. The conference also offered valuable opportunities to strengthen links with related programmes, including the Changing Ocean Biological Systems (COBS) project and the Mitigation of Natural Incidence Towards an increased Oceanic Resilience” (MoNITOR) programme.

We gratefully acknowledge all contributors to this report for sharing their latest scientific advances and perspectives on future research priorities, which will help inform the development of the IMBeR 3.0 science plan.
