Description
Startup incubators have emerged as important institutional mechanisms for promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development. In India, higher education institutions are increasingly establishing incubation centres to support student entrepreneurs, technology commercialization, and start-up development. These incubators provide mentoring, infrastructure, funding support, and networking opportunities that help transform innovative ideas into viable enterprises. The present study examines the role of startup incubators in higher education institutions as drivers of innovation and entrepreneurial talent in India. Using secondary data from government reports, research journals, and policy documents, the study evaluates how academic incubators contribute to entrepreneurship development, startup growth, and national economic progress. The findings indicate that university-based incubators play a crucial role in strengthening India’s startup ecosystem by promoting innovation-driven entrepreneurship, generating employment, and enhancing industry–academia collaboration. The study concludes that strengthening incubation ecosystems in higher education institutions can significantly contribute to achieving India’s development vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
