Description
The present study, “Phytochemical and Pharmacological Evaluation of Tylophora indica (Burm. f.) Merr. Extract,” focuses on the comprehensive investigation of the plant’s bioactive constituents and antioxidant potential. The aerial parts of Tylophora indica were subjected to solvent extraction using petroleum ether, ethanol, and aqueous media, with ethanolic extract showing the highest yield (16.67%). Qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analyses revealed the presence of flavonoids, phenolics, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, and steroids, indicating a rich phytochemical profile. Spectroscopic characterization through ATR-FTIR, GC-MS, and HPLC confirmed the presence of multiple bioactive compounds associated with therapeutic properties. The antioxidant efficacy was evaluated using DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. The ethanolic extract exhibited significant radical scavenging activity with inhibition rates of 93.48% (DPPH), 43.72% (ABTS), and 68.47% (hydroxyl), comparable to standard ascorbic acid. These findings suggest that Tylophora indica is a potent natural source of antioxidants, potentially beneficial in preventing oxidative stressrelated disorders. Overall, this study provides a scientific basis for the traditional use of Tylophora indica and highlights its potential for future development as a natural antioxidant and therapeutic agent.
