USING CONTEXT CLUES TO IMPROVE READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS

Description

This study explores how context clues can be used to improve students’ reading comprehension. Many learners face difficulties in understanding texts due to limited vocabulary, weak reading habits, and low motivation. To address this issue, a context-clue-based strategy was applied as a teaching approach to help students infer meanings from the text. A quantitative approach with an experimental design was used. Students were divided into two groups: a control group and an experimental group. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests given before and after the intervention. The findings showed that students who were taught using context clues demonstrated clear improvement in their reading comprehension. They became more confident in identifying meanings, understanding sentence structure, and locating main ideas. The results indicate that using context clues is an effective strategy for enhancing reading skills. It helps students become more independent readers and supports vocabulary development. Therefore, this strategy can be recommended for improving reading comprehension in English language learning.
