Global database of glacier failures (1900-2025)

This dataset provides a global compilation of documented glacier failure events from 1900 to 2025, including glacier/ice avalanches, glacier detachments, and rock-ice avalanches associated with glacier failures. The dataset was compiled from peer-reviewed literature, technical reports, hazard inventories, and verified media sources. It contains 502 documented events from 228 glaciers across 11 Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) regions. Each record includes event location, timing, failure type, reported triggers, and documented impacts. Glaciers affected by failure events are linked to RGI v7.0, where available, to enable integration with glacier-specific attributes.
