Keterkaitan Wiracarita Gilgamesh dengan Kitab Kejadian

Description

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem originating from Mesopotamian culture. This literary work shares a very close relationship with the Book of Genesis from the Hebrew Bible. Which literary work serves as the benchmark for the connection between the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Book of Genesis? How did the phenomenon of interconnectedness between the Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis occur? To investigate this, the researcher employs theoretical and historical analyses situated within the field of comparative literature.

The researcher utilizes documentation techniques for data collection and descriptive-comparative techniques for data processing. The study identifies several points of theoretical comparison, specifically:

  • Differences in genre.

  • Similarities and differences in themes.

  • Shared literary movements.

  • Similarities and differences within the flood narrative.

Furthermore, the study explores subjects of historical comparison, including: discussions on chronology (dating), origins, and Panbabylonism.

Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the Epic of Gilgamesh influenced the Book of Genesis. However, the research also yields a probable assumption that Genesis may have been formed earlier through an oral tradition. This interconnected phenomenon is attributed to common observations, a common heritage, and the striking parallels found within the flood narrative.
