Description

Uzbekistan has experienced a significant transformation of its financial system under the Digital Uzbekistan – 2030 strategy, marked by the rapid expansion of mobile banking services. This study investigates how the adoption of mobile banking has influenced consumer financial behavior in an emerging digital economy.

The research focuses on the ways in which digital financial tools have reshaped traditional practices such as saving, spending, and access to credit. Particular attention is given to the role of integrated “super-app” ecosystems in embedding financial services into everyday consumer activity. Using a quantitative approach supported by data from national and international financial institutions, the study identifies key patterns in digital adoption and highlights demographic and regional differences. The findings indicate that mobile banking is becoming a central component of financial interaction, especially among younger and economically active populations, while uneven adoption persists across regions.

The study concludes that although technological infrastructure and access to digital services have improved substantially, non-technical factors—particularly habitual reliance on cash and behavioral resistance to change—remain significant barriers to full financial inclusion. Addressing these challenges will be critical for the continued development of a fully digital financial ecosystem in Uzbekistan.
