Global annual ecosystem functional groups (EFGs) from 1982 to 2024

This repository provides access information for the global terrestrial ecosystem datasets developed in this study and hosted on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The dataset includes annual maps of terrestrial ecosystem types and ecosystem functional groups (EFGs) from 1982 to 2024. The data were generated by integrating our independently developed annual global land-cover products with climate regions, landform information, and the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology. The resulting products provide a globally consistent, observation-based framework for monitoring ecosystem composition, functional transitions, and condition through time. Because of the large data volume and the advantages of cloud-based analysis, the full dataset is made available through Google Earth Engine asset links rather than as direct file downloads. These links allow users to visualize, query, and analyse the data efficiently within the GEE environment. These datasets are intended to support research on ecosystem monitoring, biodiversity assessment, restoration planning, and Earth system analysis under global environmental change.
