Description
In the 21st-century education system, the integration of digital tools into teaching has transformed the
traditional role of educators. With the rise of online and blended learning, particularly after the COVID-19
pandemic, digital pedagogical skills have emerged as a core competency required for effective teaching.
This article explores the concept of digital pedagogy, outlining its key components such as digital literacy,
content creation, e-assessment and technology-enabled engagement. Unlike conventional teaching skills
that focus on face-to-face delivery and textbook instruction, digital pedagogical skills demand
adaptability, creativity, and the ability to use technology to personalize and enhance student learning
.The article provides a theoretical framework by discussing models like TPACK and SAMR, which help
educators understand how to integrate technology meaningfully. It further analyzes the importance of
these skills in promoting learner engagement, inclusivity, and personalized instruction while aligning
with global education standards, including India, National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and UNESCO’s
digital benchmarks. Despite their importance, several challenges hinder the development of these skills,
such as infrastructure gaps, teacher resistance, the digital divide, and lack of professional development.
The article presents practical strategies for capacity building, including teacher training, institutional
support, integration in teacher education, and the role of MOOCs and EdTech platforms. By highlighting
successful case studies and outlining future directions involving AI, AR/VR, and policy reforms, the
paper positions digital pedagogical competence as essential for the evolving educational landscape.
