Description
The SAFER Project (SAIL Advancing Federated Exploration and Readiness), based within the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) Databank (https://saildatabank.com/), a world-leading Trusted Research Environment (TRE) at Swansea University, was funded by Data and Analytics Research Environments UK (DARE UK) as part of the Early Adopter Programme. The project explored how approved researchers and projects could, in the future, build on existing secure data access processes to access and use data securely across different TREs while continuing to protect privacy and meet legal and ethical requirements.
SAFER focused on the governance, trust, and public-facing foundations needed to enable federation, ensuring that clear rules, strong safeguards, and public confidence support any future technical solutions.
