INDUSTRIAL ACTION AND EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA A CASE STUDY OF FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE, BAYELSA STATE

Description
The study examined industrial action and employee productivity in public universities. The study seeks how general strike affects employee productivity, it seeks how wildcat strike affects employee productivity, and it explore how economic strike affects employee productivity. The study adopted a descriptive research design targeting. The study collected primary data using a semi structured questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using multiple regression with the aid of statistical package for social sciences. The result of our regression shows general strike has a positive coefficient of 0.532 and a P-value 0.000, wildcat strike has a positive coefficient of .681 and a P-value of 0.000, economic strike has a positive coefficient of .653 and a P-value of 0.000. The study concludes that failure by government to honour promises or agreement is a contributing factor to strike action in Nigeria. The study therefore recommends that the government must fulfil promises or agreements that were made in order to avoid or reduce strike action in universities.
