Description

This dataset provides hourly raster maps of oil distribution in surface waters following a simulated tanker accident, produced within the Proof of Concept of the RETURN Project - PNRR Virtual Test Bed in front of RETURN Ville. The dataset includes three layers: oil at sea, oil beached along the coastline, and total oil (sum of floating and beached fractions).

The maps were generated using the LTRANS-Zlev Lagrangian transport model coupled with the OILTRANS oil spill and weathering module, and forced by realistic high-resolution marine and atmospheric conditions representative of a coastal sea environment. The dataset addresses impacts of oil on urban and natural environments, ecosystems, and ecosystem services, and was produced by the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS).
