Native Pollinators & Australian Agriculture A Systems-Based Policy Analysis
Description
Executive Summary
KEY FINDING
Australia's native pollinator ecosystem faces a classic policy failure: the mechanism of
decline is well understood (competitive displacement by honeybees combined with habitat
loss), but intervention remains critically under-resourced. For every dollar spent protecting
honeybees from Varroa mite, less than one cent goes to native pollinator research.
This white paper applies a systems-based diagnostic approach to analyse Australia's native
pollinator crisis. The analysis reveals systemic governance failure that threatens both
biodiversity and long-term agricultural resilience.
