Traditional Drought Indices over the pan-EU domain (1993-2018)

This dataset provides 8 standardized drought index files (SPI-1, SPI-3, SPEI-1, SPEI-3, SMA-1, SMA-3, SMA-6, and SSI-6) for the Pan-European region (1993–2018).

The indices were computed using precipitation and temperature data from the HydroGFD2.0 dataset to drive the E-HYPE hydrological model (developed by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI)).

The simulation outputs (potential evapotranspiration, streamflow, and soil moisture) were combined with HydroGFD2.0 precipitation to derive the indices.

Data Structure:

• Format: 8 matrix files (35,408 Catchment Rows × 312 Monthly Columns).

• Spatial Unit: 35,408 sub-basins defined by the E-HYPE model.

• Temporal Range: January 1993 – December 2018.

• Headers: Metadata rows for Catchment IDs and Timestamps included.
